Our Story

Vikasa began, as it’s name suggests, as a long path.  Lara and Kathy were looking for a new place to teach after their beloved Quan Yin in Garrison, NY closed and began together at East End Garden in Beacon, NY.  After two years, that studio also closed its doors, but by then, they had found Melia, the studio’s pilates teacher.  With nowhere to go, and a strong desire to stay together in service, the three women founded Vikasa, first as a small co-op, and eventually as an incorporated business that reflected their desire to grow.  Their first location was The Red Barn on Lane Gate Road in Cold Spring, which lasted for two years.  Eventually, lighting the wood stove to heat up the room 45 minutes before each class, and the seasonal mud flows into the doorway took their toll.  They were ready to move into town. From there, Many Light Hands on Main St became their home. They renovated, had a local artist paint their floor, and opened up in town.  Now at their present location at 15 Main Street, they again renovated, installed a new floor, and now, the studio reflects that entire path of growth and keeping their constant eyes on the horizon.  Please come visit and be a part of this ever expanding path that reaches deep into the heart of this strong community.
